Been a while since my last batch of DJ Edits, but as you know, I just dropped HEATROCK — and I think it’s about to share some of the goodies I cooked up. Simple, 8-bar edits with boring sections removed. Tracks that you likely won’t find in your subscription DJ pools. Enjoy!

Attended the LA premiere of this film last night, complete with a Q&A from DJ Premier, Skrillex, Mark Ronson, The Crystal Method & Pretty Lights. Gotta say – I’m a big supporter of both the concept and this documentary itself. Premier last night said it best: when musicians and producers stop experimenting and trying new sounds, the whole community of music becomes stale. These collaborations were risky, but so worth it. Bassnectar, definitely one of the top 3 dubstep producers in my book, has unreleased a dark, seamless mix of mainly original music. This baby was released 3 weeks ago (which equals what, 5 years in blog-time?) but it’s well worth the listen. It starts with in-the-pocket Bassnectar tunes, and ends up crazy rock, drum-n-bass and mashups.
Was recently discussing with a friend how addicting Foster The People’s whole first album is. Clocking in at only 10 songs, it’s truly one you can pop on and listen to front-to-back, then repeat. And then comes the remixes: one from Gigamesh, who is one of top electro-pop producers in the game; an RAC remix that’s official through the band; and a Wiz Khalifa mashup which lifts the vocals from his somewhat awkward 2008 single “Say Yeah” (I definitely prefer the FTP backing track to the Alice Deejay sample).
When my Aubrey-Graham-obsessed lil sis told me last week that he tweeted just the word “wildfire”, I was crossing my fingers he discovered my 2009 mixtape called Wild Fire. No such luck. Instead, he was just adding a verse onto one of my favorite songs of 2011. I’ll take it!
